3 Free students selected!

February 5th, 2010

Hey guys,

Just wanted to thank everyone again with the contest and although everyone who participated deserves free coaching, we could only select three students and after spending alot of time we came down to the winners. Congrats to Rick Collard, Roberto Quesada, and Dylan Meagher who won. They will all be coming down over the next couple months and will post their results.

We also added a private group online for every student who comes to the training center so we can give help and stay in touch after the students leave. For our students we have had so far, their bios, blogs, and results will be up soon. We are also getting a second house for spacegravy poker and are looking for someone to live there full time. We would like this person to be a professional poker player specializing in cash/mtts/ or sng’s. If you are interested add me on facebook and we can set it up.

As for my life, running a business, grinding, surfing, making videos for PokerVT, and traveling back in forth to the US to visit my GF has made me very busy. I made three videos for PokerVT at the end of last month and the first one should be posted next Tuesday. After that you can expect a new video made from the training center up every week. Our last student, Derek from Denver, Colorado just left and am feeling really good about how much he progressed while here. I wish him the best of luck perusing his desire to becoming a pro poker player when he returns.

Last month, after rakeback and bonuses I profited about $30,000 so happy about starting the new year off solid. I’ve been 25 tabling the $114’s-$225 9 mans and 6maxs, while throwing in some 45 mans, 180 mans, and a couple MTT’s. I’ve been doing well but not 100% focussed after playing for a couple hours into the day. It’s tough when there are so many distractions(friends talking, people sending me aim messages etc.) I think I will try reducing tables as the games become tougher throughout the year to make sure I am playing my best.

Well, time to get some sleep hope everyone is doing well.

2010 Is Looking Good So Far

February 3rd, 2010

Hi everyone!  After my excursion to the PCA at the beginning of January it was time to head back to Costa Rica and back to work.  We’ve had a student since the 21st of January and I feel he is going to produce some very good results.

I’ve been pleased with my schedule lately (although I would like to wake up slightly earlier.)  I get up around noon, surf, coach, and then grind until around 2am or so.  After our student leaves I plan on grinding more.  Last night was a good night.  I took down the $109 turbo for around $9k.  I think I was well due for a 1st place finish in an mtt being that I have had 4-5 final tables this month.  Another nice score was finishing 2nd in a $5 turbo for $3800 and two nights ago I final tabled the $501r 1a but finished 6th for about $1500.

The mtt sngs have also beein going my way.  I haven’t really played that many this year beacuse I’ve got into the habit of grinding mtts along with my sngs.  Normally when I get deep in an mtt I wind down my games so I can focus.  I’ve been making a lot of deep runs and also have a student so the amount of volume hasn’t been at its max.  Anyway I’ve made $5,673 at sngs thus far and $11,205 at mtts.  Making a total of $16,877 profit for the year so far.  I don’t plan on slowing down either.  Pura Vida!

2010 so far

February 3rd, 2010

Here are my results. Finally got all the bios so they will be going up on the website soon! Ray Venegas stoped by from Intellipoker last weekend and we all took our shots at the Sunday Million and not one of us cashed! Sigh, we’ll have an interesting Sunday soon.

First graph is PokerStars and the second is Full Tilt.

Hopefully I can qualify for the LAPT and hang out with some of the guys I talk to all the time online!

New Railbirds + Success

January 29th, 2010

So I FT a 20 dollar knockout tournament with 3500 entries and ended up scoring second for 10,586 dollars. I lost 1010 to 810 actually for the win, but no worries as I had to run pretty good to get to that point. It feels great to get back into the grind, as I’ve had a rough week and was down about 5k. Poker can just do that sometimes and the only way to get through it is to keep your head on straight and keep grinding. Something good will eventually happen.

Just wanted to thank the random railbirds on FT, RomanPoka33 and TheLuckyGoose1. I don’t know these guys personally but they rooted for me randomly and we had a good time joking at the final table. Kind of funny to get random fans that you have never talked to before so thanks guys!

Derrick has been doing well and I’m looking to get all the students biographies up on the website to and allow them to blog.

Until next time, run good and win flips!

January thus far plus Derricks arrival

January 26th, 2010

Hey guys,

Sorry for the delay in posting, just haven’t really had much time. My dog made it from Richmond to Costa Rica and Grayson got back in from hanging out with his gf so its nice to have the crew reunited. We will be picking the free students soon and announcing them. A lot of people have been asking about the free students and what it takes to be selected: This contest is for the students who wrote into Pokerstars that Spacegravy should be a pokerstars pro. So if you did that, you will be considered.

For the house blog, Chris ‘demo0013′ Codemo has made a propbet with the house. For 50 bucks a person (250 total) he said he will not shave or get a haircut. It should be really funny to follow his progress and he will be posting in the house blog. I imagine he’ll look like a homeless fella by the end of it as his hair grows in fast and thick. We should do another prop bet to see if girls will talk to him at the bars after the bet is finished.

Also Grayson has a bet with Chris that none of them can drink alcohol and the first one who does will owe the other 2k. Should be funny to see stone cold sober Chris and Grayson on a Friday night.  So many bets going on right now I feel like we should be in Vegas.

Hopefully I’ll end January strong and have something interesting to blog about! We also have a student here this week named Derrick and he has been progressing fast. I have big hopes for him and it seems like he is catching on fast.

GL all,

Back in Costa, new student in

January 25th, 2010

Hey guys,

I just got back from Florida visiting my girlfriend who goes to UF and am now back at the spacegravy poker training center working with a new student named Derek whose 50 or so and is from Denver. Most of our students have been young guys around 21 so will be fun to show every age group can learn our system.

When we first started spacegravy training center, we thought most of our clients would come from twoplustwo, however it turns out every person so far is from pokervt.com. I’ve been making videos for them for about a year now, posting about 1 video a month and this year I’m going to post 3 a month and post on their forums more often. To ensure I follow through with this, if I don’t upload 3 videos by the end of the month I will pay for a free student who is a pokervt member to come down to our training center, starting this month.

I also did an interview with mediocore poker radio a couple days ago, which I think is coming out tomorrow so be on the lookout for that. Anyone interested in joining pokervt.com use bonus code spacegravy.

1 Month in of being a Pokerstars pro

January 18th, 2010

Hey guys,

First off, we finally got the new website up and I’m very happy with the new layout. We have already contacted 2/3 of the people who won the free student packages and are still looking for one more. After we find the last one and contact him/her we will post their names.

It’s been one month in as a Pokerstars pro and am really happy being sponsored by the biggest and best online poker site in the world. The only downside is now every time I win an all in, someone in the chat box says “rigged for the pros”. I expected going into this that would happen but it’s completely worth it.

Right now I’m in Florida visiting my girlfriend who goes to UF and have been putting in a good amount of volume. I’ve been 25 tabling $60’s-$335’s and have done well. I have also been playing alot of MTT’s and have made tons of deep runs but havn’t quite been able to seal the deal. O well, that’s just how they go somtimes. Tomorrow, we’re going to Savannah, Georgia to hang out so will probably take the whole day off from playing. After that, we’re going to Orlando then I’m getting back to Costa Rica on the 23rd for our next paying student. He is an older guy so will be fun to show after he’s done that everyone can win at this game. Gonna get some sleep now, hope everyone had a good Sunday.

PCA & Goals for the Year

January 17th, 2010

Hello everyone. As you may know I ventured out to the Bahamas from Jan 4th-12th for the PCA main event. It was a good experience even though I busted on day 2. I went into the tournament on day 1a with the upmost confidence. My table was alright, with only about 4 players who seemed to know what they were doing and the rest kinda meh. The guy to my right seemed like a good cash player, raising a lot of pots and 3 betting pretty wide which caused me to have to alter my game in certain spots against him. My first big hand (for a little over 60k in chips after a 30k starting stack) was against this older woman with a lot of bling. She opened from utg+1 and i have pocket 9’s from middle position so I flat call. The guy to my direct left also calls and the rest fold. The flop was 9 of diamonds and two random under cards, one of those also being a diamond. Actions on her and she checks. With two diamonds on the board and two players in the pot I elected to bet out about 2/3 the pot. The third player reraises and the old lady insta calls. This is kind of weird for me. I could just flat call but a diamond could put me in a really weird spot. Also the guy who re-raised was a very tight player so I assumed he had a hand. I actually put him on a lower set. So I tank for a bit and shove my stack in there. This also could look like I have top pair with a good kicker or an over-card flush draw as well. The re-raiser tanks for a bit and folds and old lady snap calls. She flips over AJ of diamonds. I had to sweat that a little but thankfully she didn’t hit and I was chip leader at my table for the rest of the day chipping up to about 64kish.

The next day was day 1b so I had the day off to explore and just kind of relax. That night I met up with j0hndayt0n, athanasios9, tmoney and his girl, bfizz11, and a few others that I cant remember I believe dcj123. We went out and got dinner (I won the flip for that btw :) ) and got some drinks. It was pretty cool meeting the guys that I grind with on the regular. Also we were all still in the tournament which was pretty awesome.

I felt good going into day 2 even after having drinks the night before. I had an above average stack which was about 55k or so. I kind of floated along for a while, only getting involved in a few pots before losing some chips with 10’s against AQ. The blinds we’re 400/800 and it was folded to me on the button with my 10’s. I had around 50k in chips so I raise and the big stack big blind (who has over 100k chips) 3 bets me. This is a weird spot because he had been playing pretty tight. I really consider a 4 bet and after a while of thinking I decide to flat. 10’s is a pretty strong hand in this situation and I like flatting in position against this player. The flop is AQA and he checks. I check behind. There’s no reason to bet here I think because he’s hardly ever going to call with a worse hand and if he’s got a lower pocket pair he may try to bluff a future street. The turn is a random low card and it goes check check and the river is also random. Because he checks both the flop and turn I feel that I am ahead. He could have something like a lower pp or KJs K10s J10s something of that nature a lot of the time. He bets out on the river and I call. He flips over AQ. If he would have bet earlier streets I think i could have got away from it pretty easily but the fact it was checked all the way down is the reason I called. I think with an ace or queen he bets the turn most of the time. O well It didn’t cripple me so I wasn’t really worried about it. I fluctuate a little and pick up AA from the bb. I 3 bet a raiser and he flatted and called my continuation bet on the flop. Folded to my bet on the turn. This bumped my up to a little over 45k which was a nice little pot.

Eventually I make it to 800/1600 blinds with a 200 ante. A lot of chips in that pot fellas. I have around 40k chips from middle position and bump it up to 3800. The aggro euro guy to my left re raises to around 11k and its folded back to me. I’m not too worried about this because he had been raise-folding a lot and even 3 bet folded once or twice. Either way I’m getting it in in this spot against mostly any player so I shove. He kinda sighs and calls with QQ so I’m like ok lets flip. Flop comes AJ9 rainbow so I mentally fist pump but show no expression physically being that there are 2 more cards. Turn is a J. River is Q and there goes my tournament life for about 90k chips. This just goes to show how brutal poker can be at certain times. I know in essence I only lost a flip (a $30k in equity flip) but the ace gave me so much hope only to be crushed by the poker gods themselves. I took the walk of shame back to my room and relaxed for a bit. I then went and bout myself a $60 buffet which was extremely good.

A few days later my girlfriend came which I had been looking forward to. The thing about the Bahamas besides it not being that awesome, was that the weather really sucked that week. They had their record breaking low which was like 50 something degrees and it was very windy. Most of the time I wore a hoodie. It was kind of a bummer that we didn’t get to experience much of the outdoor stuff. We did go swimming in the ocean one of the days which was nice because the water was clear blue and also warmer than the air. We saw the aquarium which was awesome and also went into town for a day which was meh. We had a few nice dinners and went to the club a couple times which was pretty fun. It was her first time in a club so she got to wile out a bit :)

Overall if your thinking about going to the Bahamas I think you should reconsider and come to Costa Rica. There wasn’t much natural beauty there and most of it is pretty run down. The premises around Atlantis made me feel more like I was in a theme park and less like a tropical paradise. The whole time I was thinking about how much I already miss Costa Rica and can’t wait to get back. The best part about being in the Bahamas was having my girlfriend, otherwise I probably would have left early.

So now I am back in Richmond and I’ve been playing a couple hours every day. I’ve been doing alright just frustrated I’ve made a few deep runs and no big cashes. Starting this year I plan to play my normal stake mtt sngs and I’ve really started including low buy in mtts to my sessions. $2.20 turbos, $8.80’s, $5.50’s etc along with my normal $11-$55 mtts. I think that throwing these lower games in will be great overall because several of them have very nice top prizes (5k-13k) and the players are pretty bad the whole time, even final tables. It’s pretty cool because I’ll be grinding and randomly see I’m starting to get deep in something with a big stack. I’m not really sure what I expect to make this year but I’m working towards having over a 100k year. It’s good to set a goal but it’s hard because you never know where life may take you. You could have a nice cash for 20k+ and decide you want to take a break and actually enjoy the money that you’ve made. I love poker but I also love life and find it hard to sit in front of a computer screen for weeks or months on end sometimes. I’m excited for this new year, our future students, and our new website. I think the future is bright for spacegravypoker and cant wait to get out there in a few days. Pura Vida!

New website!

January 16th, 2010

So, as you can see, our new website is finally up! I’m still waiting on the bios from our first three students… cough cough HURRY UP :) but I should have those up very soon. Also, as a housekeeping pain in the neck, my email has transfered and is down for the first couple days. So, if I don’t get back to you, please please email me again. I hope I transfered it over correctly but I could be wrong as Daleroxxu will tell you, I’m technogically retarded and could have easily made a mistake. If you also see any typos or have input on the website, please feel free to write them on comments.

I got 6th yesterday in the 55 rebuy. I lost qq to a7 on a 733 board for 1st place in chips at the final table and was crippled. I ended up busting out 6th for 3k.  Still a good day overall and a great month when you combine that with my 50 1r 1a 2nd place finish. I’m excited about where my MTT game is going. I actually now am backed by the infamous Sheets and Bax, so I’m going to start pursuing the live circuit as well. Look out poker world, reef2287 is on the rise! lol Be nice to pull a Joe Cada this year in the WSOP. He has been such a great ambassador for poker though and I’m really happy he beat out good ol’ Darvin Moon for the win.

Heres our youtube video again (since my last post got lost in the transition)

Heres my graph for 2010 as well. Easy game.

Hope everyone likes the feel of the new website!

New Years Resolutions

January 2nd, 2010

So Daleroxxu and myself were chatting about how to keep a blog halfway entertaining, we decided this would be fun to do… So here we go. This is not a stupid gay pokerblog where I say man in 2010 I bet I can win a million dollars (I bet Bfizz’s blog will have something of this nature). Monetary goals in poker are all driven by variance and effort. My goals actually have to do with developing myself as both a person and a player.

1) Money: I spend too much frivilious money at bars, do not plan for savings and investments wise enough, and I want to be super rich. To think there are simple fixes in my investing strageties that  take maybe 20 minutes to implement, but can save me 1000’s of dollars makes me sick. I need to optimize my finances. If your interested in this, please read I Will Teach You To Be Rich. This is a must read in 2010 and will help you clean up your finances.

2) Live my life by Randy Pausch’s last lecture. If you don’t know who he was, he went to the doctor with a cough and was told he had pancreatic cancer and had 7 months to live. Instead of being scared and hide from the public, he came to U.Va and gave a heroric speech on time management and enjoyment of life. Besides being really funny and entertaining, his lecture has a lot of important tidbits about life. I recommend watching his video and implementing what he said in your daily life. Heres a link to the video:
3) Entertain the fact of getting my masters in Behavioral Economics. Not sure if I ever will go back to school, but its something I need to ponder in the next year.

4) Make the transition to 6-max cash, and get better with a deeper stack. I have played over 20,000 sitngoes and mtts and I’m very confident about my 10-30 bb game. I’m really going to try to learn hard and study the game and try to add that style of play in my arsenal. PLZ ONE TIME!

5) Stop worrying about the bad beats of poker and the smaller things in life and worry more about the big picture and the people in my life. This is so important, I don’t even know where to begin. I see so many of our students come and worry over every bad beat. They complain, cry, etc. but they don’t worry about where they are in life and where they want to go. This is mindboggling. Poker is simply put, a tilting game where 90% of the time in each tournament or sit n go you enter, your going to lose. Instead of focusing on the loses (even when you got it in ahead!) focus on how you can improve your game and where you may have made a mistake. And one needs to do that in your everyday life. Don’t stress the small things that you have no control over. When I was in school, I was a tilt monkey about grades and getting that a- over a b+. It took me a long time to realize that small incremental differences in grades made no difference in my life but the unnecessary stress really made me enjoy life less. Never once in a job interview did somebody say, “Well I see you got a b+ here in this class– we’re really only looking to hire somebody who got an a- in this class. Sorry.” Stressing small things of which your control is limited causes headaches and I’m trying to avoid those in 2010.

Those are it I reckon. My good friends Jesse and Russell have come down to Costa for new years along with my gf and her friend so I will post some New Years picture to my blog as soon as I add them to my computer.

I’ll leave you with this for 2010: If you can dream it, you can do it. Walt Disney said that quote and I reckon he’s quite a successful figure in life. I also bet a lot of people told him DisneyWorld wasn’t possible. So instead of listening to the cynics, dream away, and never give up until you achieve them.

In this pictures its myself and my gf, a group picture, and a picture of me and a cool background. Enjoy.
